Building Block Award
Honors a picture book voted most popular by
preschool children in Missouri's public libraries.

The Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award, administered
by the Youth Services Community of Interest of MLA, is presented
annually to the author and illustrator of the picture book voted most
popular by preschool children in Missouri's public libraries. Designed
to encourage reading aloud to children from birth through kindergarten
age, the award was first given in 1996. Parents and other caregivers are
encouraged to read aloud to children from a list of ten titles selected
annually by a group of Missouri children's librarians. Colorful posters,
bookmarks, activity sheets, and a manual of great ideas add to the fun.

The purpose of the Show Me Readers Award is to promote literature, literacy, and reading in Missouri elementary schools for grades one through three and to promote recognition of authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of Missouri children in these grades.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Award was first given to its namesake in 1954.
It honors an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children. Between 1960 and 1980, the Wilder Award was given every five years. From 1980 to 2001, it was awarded every three years. Beginning in 2001, it has been awarded every two years.

This annual award is given to the producer of the best
audiobook produced for children and/or young adults, available in
English in the United States. The poems comprising Homer's "The Odyssey"
were originally told and retold in the oral tradition, hence the name
for this award. The Odyssey Award allows us to return to the ancient
roots of storytelling, while living in our modern world.
